Locals were recently startled to find that someone was visiting each of the villages on the island and erasing the english name on the respective villages.  Rather than the blame resting with local hooligans and thugs, the blame rests the Placenames order.

 This will also prevent English being used on road signs, and anglicised forms of Irish place names are likely to disappear from use. So if you find yourself on Achill and the map you’ve purchased doesn’t seem to have the right placenames then its probably your map is a wee bit out of date and you should be kitting yourself out with one from famine times.
