Blue Flag Beaches For Achill
Five of Achill’s beaches have retained their Blue Flag status according to the annual review announced today. The Blue Flag programme is a Europe-wide scheme to grade beaches and marinas according to a list of criteria that ranges from water and beachfront cleanliness to the provision of facilities and local information.
The programme is administered in Ireland by An Taisce. The five Achill Island beaches which continue to enjoy Blue Flag status are:
Dooega,Keel,Keem,Dugort and Golden Strand
In addition, the nearby beach at Mulranny and The Harbour at Clare Island also retained their Blue Flag status, confirming the Achill area as one of Ireland’s premier seaside destinations.
