Westdoc, the out-of-hours GP service, has set up a mobile support service at weekends for the GPs in the Belmullet and Achill areas. The Remote Rural Support Plan will provide a locum GP, supported by a local driver, to cover both areas on an agreed schedule.

During the times that Westdoc is covering, GP care will be accessed through the Lo-Call number 1850 365000. Call handlers will take basic patient details, and a nurse triage service will also be provided. The patient’s own GP will receive full details of the medical treatment the patient received from Westdoc for the patient’s file.

Over the next number of months, Westdoc will be providing emergency and urgent weekend medical cover in Belmullet, from 6pm on Friday evening to 9am on Monday morning. On Bank Holiday weekends, the cover will continue through to 9am on the Tuesday morning. The dates from now to September are as follows:
