Achill Clubs Receive Funding

_1265809_croker300.jpgTwo Achill Clubs have received €2,500 between them in funding. Achill GAA Club received €1,500 andOgras Saoirse-Dooniver received €1,000 by the Mayo Sports Partnership. The Partnership which comprises of interested agencies, Sports and Community Forum representatives, is funded by the Irish Sports Council and is a sub-office of the Mayo County Development Board. For funding under this scheme, quality and innovation of the projects is important.At a Mayo Sports Partnership board meeting held recently 19 sports projects throughout Mayo received a total of €18,000 in funding under the Participation Project Initiative Scheme 2007. The aim of the Sports Partnership is to increase participation in sport and it is envisaged that these projects will help to do just that particularly in disadvantaged sectors of the population.As well as this scheme many clubs have benefited from the Partnerships Training and Education Scheme which subsidises a coaches participation in their governing body coach education programme. Subsidised funding can be up to 50% and sports such as GAA, Soccer, Athletics, Martial Arts amongst others have availed of it.
