The Achill man who doesn’t like running!

th1_26f2p05fpomalley.jpgA sporstsman who ‘doesn’t like running’ has several good reasons to take on the world’s biggest half marathon for a charity close to his heart.

David O’Malley decided to take up running to boost his fitness and on Sunday he will take part in the Great North Run in a bid to raise cash for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He is already on target to raise £1,500.

“The MS Society seems more advanced in Ireland,” said David, originally from Achill Island in County Mayo.

“Beta interferon, a drug used to reduce the frequency and severity of relapses for people suffering from MS, is readily available in Ireland but here it’s depends on your address.

“In certain areas of the UK you’re not entitled because it’s regarded as being too expensive which isn’t fair.

“The Multiple Sclerosis Society campaign for things like that, let people know what support and information is available and fund research as well.”
