2 Achill Winners at People of Year Awards
Among the winners of the 15th Mayo People of the Year awards winners stood 2 Achill people, Mary Henry and Tomás Mac Sheáin.
The Rehan awards event, sponsored by the Connaught Telegraph and Mayo County Council, was a sell-out. Over 500 attended what is the biggest fund-raiser of the year for Rehab, who provide support, education, training and employment for people with disabilities in the county.
The Gradam na Gaeilge award was presented to Tomás Mac Sheáin from Achill, whose championing and promotion of the Irish language was lauded.
A Standing ovation and sustained applause accompanied Mayo’s Special Olympics athletes on Friday night last, as they made their way to the stage to pick up their Mayo People of the Year award. Among them Achill’s Mary Henry winner of a Gold and a Silver medal in the horse riding event in this years games in China.
